*Sacred Scripture*Parable* The Good Samaritan — Tissot

December 24

This lovely artwork by Tissot shows the good Samaritan man from the parable of Christ, narrated in Luke 10:29-37raising the stripped and beaten traveler from the ditch in order to place the stranger on his own horse.

Lk 10:29-37

The Parable of the Good Samaritan.

29But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30Jesus replied, “A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead.

31* A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.

32Likewise a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.

33But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight.

34He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn and cared for him.

35The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, ‘Take care of him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.’

36Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?”

37He answered, “The one who treated him with mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

Saying the holy name of Jesus is the simplest way of praying always.

1-A prayer from Raphael the Archangel:

*While you are on this earth, you must praise the Lord God and give him thanks.

2-A prayer from Tobit and Tobias:

*They began to sing hymns of praise, giving thanks for all the mighty deeds God had done while his angel Raphael had been with them.

3-A simple Jesus prayer:

*Lord, Lord, Jesus Christ…Son of God…have mercy on me…Be kind to others…Work Hard…Be joyful.

4-Another prayer:

*When all that God asks of us is to be quiet and keep ourselves at peace-attentive to the secret work He is beginning in our souls-Be Empty and See That I Am God.

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord”. . . Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
