*Sacred Scripture* Jesus Calming the Tempest – Tissot
This artwork, by J. Tissot, shows Jesus calming a storm on the sea of Galilee. The depiction is based on the account of the Savior’s miracle, in Mark 4:39-40 : “And rising up, he rebuked the wind, and said to the sea: ‘Peace, be still.’ And the wind ceased: and there was made a great calm. And he said to them: ‘Why are you fearful? Have you not faith yet?’ And they feared exceedingly: and they said one to another: ‘Who is this (thinkest thou) that both wind and sea obey him?’ ”

While crossing the Sea of Galilee in a ship during the night, Jesus and his disciples are overtaken by a storm. Tissot omits any sign of landfall, heightening the sense of danger in the rough, stormy sea. Awakened by his followers, who fear for their lives, Jesus quiets the tempest with a dramatic and dynamic gesture and rebukes his companions for their lack of faith.
Tissot’s commentary connects this shipboard miracle with the miraculous draught of fishes, noting: “It was in the same boat, which then symbolized the Church, that Our Lord stilled the tempest and reassured the disciples, who typified redeemed mankind.”

The Calming of a Storm at Sea.
39He woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Quiet! Be still!”* The wind ceased and there was great calm.
40Then he asked them, “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?”

Saying the holy name of Jesus is the simplest way of praying always.
1-A prayer from Raphael the Archangel:
*While you are on this earth, you must praise the Lord God and give him thanks.

*They began to sing hymns of praise, giving thanks for all the mighty deeds God had done while his angel Raphael had been with them.

*When all that God asks of us is to be quiet and keep ourselves at peace-attentive to the secret work He is beginning in our souls-Be Empty and See That I Am God.
